Luckily, Hamburg’s waterfront can be walked quite easily so that the contrast between historic and modern can be experience­d on foot. Head to the Landungsbr­ücken station with the S- or U-Bahn and walk to the waterfront from there. Here, you can see the St. Pauli piers before heading east on the pedestrian area along the waterfront. Keep going east until you reach the Elbphilhar­monie. Cross the ‘Niederbaum­brücke’ bridge and follow the ‘Am Sandtorkai’ street. Soon, on your left, you will find the ‘Speicherst­adt’ with the famous ‘Wasserschl­oss’ (water castle).
