ROY THOMPSON

-

MR Roy Thompson of Sussex Close, Church died on Saturday, July 25 aged 68.

Roy was born in Great Harwood and at an early age went to live in London.

After his schooling there he served his time as a painter and decorator in London, where he worked and lived for many years before returning to Accrington where he met and married his wife Kathleen.

He continued his employment as a self employed painter decorator for approximately 20 years.

He then had a change of direction and began work as a process worker at Cocker Chemicals in Oswaldtwistle, a job he held for several years before returning to painting and decorating on a casual basis. This work took him up to early recruitment due to ill health.

Along with his son, Roy loved to follow Blackburn Rovers FC. He loved to command the remote control for the TV, especially all sports, quiz programmes and police documentaries.

He was a true family man and loved to be surrounded by his extended family. In past years along with his family he enjoyed many seaside holidays all over the country but Blackpool was one of his favourite resorts.

He leaves his wife Kathleen, son Barry and his partner Sharon, grandchildren Kimberley, Nicola and George and great grandson Jamie. He was also a dear cousin of Elaine and Alan and also Pat and Les.

The family have requested that bright clothing should be worn to celebrate Roy’s life.

The funeral will take place on Thursday, August 6 with service at Accrington Crematorium at 11am officiated by David Ireland. Donations in memory of Roy to the British Heart Foundation c/o funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services.
