ASFC COMMUNITY TRUST COLUMN

AT Accrington Stanley Community Trust we offer a unique opportunity for all 16-19 year old football players to pursue a two-year Football Education Scholarship.

We will be going into our sixth year of running the course and have grown a fantastic reputation for post-16 education provision with all students attaining a 100 per cent pass rate provided by our ‘Outstanding’ tutors.

The BTEC Level 2 in Sport is a 1 year course which involves education, work experience, practical training and matches. The minimum requirements for this course are 2 D’s or above at GCSE level. Students who enrol onto this programme will study with us for 12 months, when they complete the qualification they will start the BTEC Level 3 programme the following academic year.

The BTEC Level 3 in Sport (Equivalent to 3 A Levels) is a 2 year course which involves education, work experience, practical training and matches. For those who are excelling in this area, they will put onto an extended diploma.

The course follows the same structure as a college meaning students will find themselves in MondayFriday within the hours of 9am-4pm term time only.

Every week students will participate in Training for 4:30 hours per week with either a Futsal or Football game on the Wednesday.

Each week will include training, analysis and fitness/ recovery sessions to develop players as players as well as student.

Sessions will be led by UEFA Qualified coaches and follow a season long training program to develop all players’ abilities wherever they may be.

Students will still be allowed to their grassroots team at a weekend too.

ASCT Football Development Officer Matt Parkinson said: “It’s a brilliant course for any student looking to continue their education with Outstanding staff, while representing Accrington Stanley in our Football and Futsal teams.

“It will be a huge benefit for those looking to progress on to university while also developing themselves as players with UEFA qualified staff offering support on Recovery, Fitness and Performance.”

Current captain and student Jordan Lewis said: “This course has given all I could’ve wanted.

“I get to study at Accrington Stanley’s stadium while getting to play futsal and football with my mates every day. I’m currently applying for university at the moment but also looking at scholarships in America to play football too.”
