Goal-happy Matty nets rewards

ACCRINGTON Stanley defender Matty Pearson admits he goes into each match believing he will score following his recent prolific goalscoring run.

The full-back had five goals in Accrington’s last six matches heading into Saturday’s game with Yeovil, helping the team during their unbeaten run.

Despite being a defender, Pearson has revealed that he is now confident of finding the net in each game.

“For one reason or another I feel like I can score every time I go up,” he told the club’s official website.

“The manager and the rest of the lads have been saying I should be on more goals because earlier in the season I was missing chances and should have been putting them away.

“The ball just seems to be coming to me. To be fair it’s probably the deliveries from Sean McConville and Jordan Clark. They’ve been brilliant. They’ve been putting the ball where I want it to be, allowing me to attack the ball and score.

“I’ve been giving the two central midfielders a little bit of stick. Seamus Conneely and Scott Brown need to score but it’s not just me telling them that. Everybody is onto them.

“Goals put you in the spotlight. You just have to take it as it comes and play your football. I get more pleasure from getting the three clean sheets in the last three games. That’s been a massive help with our goal difference and I hope it can continue.”

Accrington have climbed up the League Two table following their recent good run, and Pearson admits that the team are now a lot things and I think that helps us all with our game,” he said.

“There’s always going to be pressure, especially when you’re looking at the league table, but once you get on a run it just seems to keep going especially in this league.

“That also goes for if you’re on a bad run. When you’re on a bad run you need to break that cycle and luckily we have managed to do that.

“For some reason I think we got into a mode of panicking. We’re out of that now. We don’t panic if we go a goal behind because we’re confident we’re going to score.”
