GALLERY CORNER
THE next temporary exhibition to open at Haworth Art Gallery will be ‘Kaleidoscope’, featuring two local art and craft societies – Ribble Creative Stitchers and Blackburn Artist Society.
Ribble Creative Stitchers are a small, friendly and enthusiastic group of textile artists who share a love of textile work. They meet on a monthly basis for talks and workshops on a variety of topics and welcome new members.
The aim of the group is to provide workshops and meetings for members and guests, in order to increase the knowledge and understanding of textiles, embroidery and associated crafts.
Members’ interests include both contemporary and traditional techniques. This includes hand and machine embroidery, felting, gold work, mixed media, knitting, crochet, beading and patchwork.
Blackburn Artists Society was formed in 1946 to promote, in a friendly setting, the appreciation and practice of all forms of fine art among artists and sculptors and to give members the opportunity to exhibit and sell their works.
As a society they welcome new members, whatever their ability or experience who wish to develop and increase their skills. They meet on a weekly basis, sharing best practice, holding demonstrations of techniques and practical informal sessions ranging from figure drawing to outdoor in-situ landscape painting.
This diverse and colourful exhibition opens on Saturday, April 22, with an official opening by the Mayor and Mayoress of Hyndburn at 12.30pm. The exhibition will then run until Sunday, June 4.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday noon to 4.45pm, Saturday, Sunday noon to 4.15pm, closed all day Monday.
