ON behalf of the club president, David Duckworth welcomed the third new member to join in the last three meetings.

It was a formal meeting being the AGM.

However plans are in place for activities over the coming weeks.

There will be a ‘Stroke Awareness Day’ at Asda in Accrington from 10am until 3pm on April 22.

This is for anyone who wishes to have his or her blood pressure checked and to get further information about preventative health care.

A musical evening with songs from the shows and buffet supper will be held on April 29.

May 7, we will be picking up litter in Peel Park and on June 3 we will be bag-packing at Asda in Accrington to raise funds for the District Governor’s charity ‘Blood Bikes’.

Stewarding for the Ribble Valley Ride is booked for June 11.

The bakers among us will be providing nourishing and sustaining fruit bars, flapjacks and malt loaf for the riders.

We continue to support ‘Purple 4 Polio’ to help with the eradication of the disease worldwide.

Rotary’s own charity celebrates its centenary this year and in June we will be gathering in Blackburn Cathedral to showcase its work worldwide.

Looking further ahead there will be the opportunity to visit Jodrell Bank in July and the Land Rover factory at Halewood in September.

The major fundraiser this year will be a black tie event on May 20 at Whalley Golf Club when the proceeds from the evening will be split between East Lancashire Hospice and Derian House.

It promises to be a splendid evening full of fun, food and entertainment with sponsorship from Barclays Bank.
