National role for school and headteacher

-

THE headteacher and staff at The Hollins in Accrington have been selected to support schools in challenging circumstances and train new teachers.

Steve Campbell is one of more than 75 headteachers to be appointed as a national leader of education.

National leaders of education and the staff in their school – appointed as national support schools – use their knowledge and experience to provide additional leadership in other schools in need of support.

The Hollins is also one of more than 65 schools that have been selected to become a national teaching school, taking a leading role in recruiting and training new entrants to the profession.

Introduced in 2011, teaching schools work with partner schools to provide high quality school-led teacher training and professional development opportunities for teachers at all stages of their career.

They raise standards through supporting other schools, especially those in challenging circumstances and ensure that the most talented school leaders are spotted and supported to become successful headteachers.

Steve said: “This is a great honour for The Hollins and myself, and recognition of the hard work we have put in over the last five years.

“The Teaching School Alliance of East Lancashire (TSAEL) will be led by The Hollins and will include secondary and special schools from across East Lancashire as well as four teacher training providers.

“We will look to work collaboratively to give the best possible education to all young people in East Lancashire and beyond.”

Roger Pope, chairman of the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL), said: “I’d like to congratulate The Hollins and Steve Campbell on being appointed as a teaching school and a national leader of education.

“They should be very proud of this achievement.

“Teaching schools and national leaders of education are at the heart of school improvement.

“They’re supporting other schools, attracting and training the best new teachers and developing the next generation of leaders.

“At NCTL, we want to do all we can to support their work.”
