In final effort

-

It looked like they may have been on course for victory, but in the end the Bacup bowlers managed to bowl them out during the final over, earning their side a six run win.

Ernest Kemm and Matthew Aspinall were the pick of the bowlers for Bacup, finishing with 3-34 and 3-36 respectively.

ENFIELD came up short in their match too after a two-wicket defeat to Colne at Dill Hall Lane.

Colne won the toss and decided to field first, with Enfield finishing on 176 all out at the end of their innings after Lewis Wright top scored with 56.

It looked like Colne were on course for a straight forward win when they were 155-3 at one stage, but Enfield performed well with the ball and reduced their opponents to 167-8.

Colne managed to hold on and reach their total while keeping those last two wickets intact for a hard-fought win.

GREAT HARWOOD’s fortunes weren’t any better as they lost by 65 runs against Nelson at Cliffe Park.

Nelson were put into bat first by their opponents, and finished on 256-4 after good scores from Devon Conway (85) and Lewis Bradley (62).

Great Harwood professional Ashen Silva tried to lead the charge for his side as he scored 73, but other than Paul Houldsworth (41), none of his teammates managed to offer much and the team were bowled all out for 191.

Elsewhere in the Lancashire League, Ramsbottom made amends for their cup defeat with a two-wicket win against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Burnley won the toss and decided to bat, and ended their innings on 222-6 after David Brown (81) and opener Liam Bedford (65) both passed half centuries.

It was a shaky start for Ramsbottom but they appeared to make amends thanks to the likes of Jon Fielding (61) and JJ Fielding (55 not out).

It proved to be a nailbiting finish when Ramsbottom went to 211-8, but the visitors powered through and finished on 227-8, winning the match with two overs to spare.
