BOWLS

AFTER what turned out to be a rather damp bowling season for the Hyndburn League this season, the Veterans on the Oak Hill (round green) enjoyed promotions for three of their teams and two of their players won their league’s Merit Trophies.

Oak Hill’s ‘A’ team, led by Denise Holt, in the Hyndburn League, secured promotion to Division 2 and the club’s ‘B’ team, led by Sandie Whittaker, were promoted to Division 3. Denise and Sandie are pictured, right. Keith Munro successfully led his team to promotion in the Great Harwood League.

Fred Rostran, club treasurer, won the Players’ Merit Trophy for Division 3 with a magnificent 99% performance and Barry Robinson won the Division 4 Players’ Merit, also with just one game lost all season.

Club president Frank Goldsborough said it had been a very encouraging season and welcomed the contribution made by our new players as well as our more seasoned members. New players are always welcome and if interested in joining the club may like to attend the AGM on 10th November 2017 at the New Jerusalem Church on Hargreaves Street, Accrington at 1 pm.

When the season re-commences in April there will be experienced club players available to introduce new members to the game.

Throughout the winter recess club members enjoy snooker sessions at the New Jerusalem Church, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons from 12 noon to 3 pm.
