CALLUM Johnson made his full debut for Accrington against Barnet last Saturday and impressed many spectators with his performance during the 4-1 thrashing of the Bees.

The 21-year-old joined the Reds from Championship side Middleborough on the summer deadline day – after making three EFL trophy appearances for the North-East side - and will remain with Stanley on loan until January.

“I am loving it here,” he said. “I joined the club in September and Barnet was my first full start. I’ve had to be patient but the opportunity finally came.

“I think I took the chance I was given, and overall we had a good performance out there. Taking the three points being the most important thing.”

As a player, Johnson he can play anywhere across either the backline or in centre in of the pitch as a midfielder. Generally, Johnson acts as a breathless machine throughout a match.

“I am always working on my fitness and I do quite a lot of extra work in training, trying to work on my pace and also my heading.”

“I want to try and bring some more goals into my game, too, but that is that one of the few areas of my game that I want to improve on.”

Stanley head to West Yorkshire on Sunday for their first round FA tie against struggling National League outfit Guiseley, and Johnson feels that anything is possible in the competition.

“We believe that we are a good side. One of the aims is to get promoted, but another would be to get as far as we can in the FA Cup. It’s obviously a big competition, but the squad believe we can go into every game and win it. Anything is possible.”

Stanley, who are sat in second position in the League Two table, just one point behind Notts County, have been in superb lately, with youngster Johnson believing that attackers Kayden Jackson and Billy Kee’s winning formula being the most overriding factor to the club’s success.

“Every game Kee and Jackson play, well, they are just both constantly on fire. They really work well together, and individually are quality players.

“I have only been with the team a couple of months and I can tell the squad all believe in ourselves.

“We’ve all got a good chance of promotion and we just got to keep taking it game by game and working hard.

“Even as a team, we believe in ourselves. We have got a good chance of promotion but we have just got to keep taking it game by game and working hard to get there.”
