AUDREY WILSON

-

MRS Audrey Wilson, of Great Harwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, in Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 94 years, following a short illness.

Born in Clitheroe, Audrey attended Pendle Junior School and Clitheroe Grammar before working in the office at Chatburn Mill during the war.

She married Lawrence in 1947 and began farming on Whalley Nab. Audrey and Lawrence produced and reared their own chickens and turkeys for sale in their shops in Clitheroe, Accrington and Great Harwood where they also sold cooked meats, eggs and other foodstuffs, and on their two market stalls on Accrington market. She worked until she retired in 1993.

Audrey enjoyed fashion and clothes. She learnt dressmaking and pattern cutting during the war and made many of her own and her daughter’s clothes. She loved dancing, musicals and summer shows in Blackpool. Audrey enjoyed many holidays abroad as well as caravan holidays in this country from Scotland to Somerset.

Audrey and Lawrence were fortunate to design and have built their own house in Whalley Banks, and Audrey cared for Lawrence after he was disabled due to a stroke until his death in 2005. After that Audrey lived an independent life, gardening and driving herself to and from family and friends into her early 90s. Audrey remained a loving home-maker, interested in others, unfailingly loyal and kind, generous with a sense of humour, never complaining about life’s adversities. Audrey will be sadly missed for her bright sparkling personality.

Wife of the late William Lawrence Wilson, much-loved mum of Patricia, David and Robert, mum-in-law of Alastair and Susan, grandma and greatgrandma, sister to Edward and the late Billy, sister-in-law to Barbara, Gladys, Mabel, Laurence, Marion and the late Richard, aunt and great-aunt.

A huge thank you to all staff on Ward C11 at Royal Blackburn Hospital for their exemplary care during Audrey’s short illness.

The service and cremation to celebrate Audrey’s life will take place at 1.40pm, on Monday, January 22, at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road, Accrington.
