CIVIC ARTS

- EMMA HOLDEN

WE’RE back after the Christmas break and are ready to go here at the Civic. 2018 is already shaping up to be our busiest and most exciting year yet, our calendar is almost full and we’re so excited to share our upcoming events with you.

Last year’s pantomime season was our most successful yet; we welcomed almost 4,000 people to watch The Wizard of Oz by Immersion Theatre and we have some very exciting news to be announced very soon. If you’d like to see them in action, they’ll be bringing The Jungle Book to the Civic on Saturday, March 3, at 2pm. Tickets are very limited already, so please book early.

If the January blues are getting to you, we’ve got some good news. Jimmy Cricket, the family favourite comedian, will be here on Saturday, January 27, at 7pm, also

see right. Tickets are just £10 or £5 for under-16s. Manford’s Comedy Club will also be back in the next few weeks with their first gig of 2018 on Saturday, February 10. Tickets are £12.50, and you can expect some of the best acts on the comedy circuit.

Our monthly Open Mic night also returns the following evening from 7pm – there’s no need to book and entry for both acts and audience is completely free.

For our younger audience members, on Saturday, February 10, at 2pm, the team behind last March’s Elves and the Shoemaker will be presenting Hansel and Gretel. This silly, pantostyle show is perfect for younger ones as it is a shorter performance and features loads of audience interaction. All tickets are £6.50.

Later in February we will also be having another relaxed performance.

This performance of The Abominable Snowman has been specially adapted to suit children with Autism, SEN and other learning disabilities. The show will be immersive and visually engaging, using puppetry and storytelling – more information can be found on our website. The performance is on Saturday, February 24, at 2pm and tickets are £8 for children and £10 for adults.

We’d like to thank all our audience members, past and present, for supporting us throughout the year and we look forward to welcoming you soon.

As an independent, charity run theatre it wouldn’t be possible without you!
