Man in court over threats to kill wife

-

A MAN attacked and threatened to kill his wife, a court heard.

Christopher Robert Mullin, 51, of St Leger Court, Accrington, admitted an offence of common assault and a second of making threats to kill.

Blackburn Magistrates Court heard the attack happened at around 7pm on December 27 last year at the couple’s home address.

Mullin, who had been drinking, swore at his wife, shouting ‘I’m going to kill you’, the hearing was told.

He then slapped her across the face, bursting her eardrum before pinning her to the sofa by gripping her biceps.

He again threatened her before she escaped his hold.

After calling for police assistance a call handler heard him shout ‘come and get me, I’m going to kill her’.

The victim said the attack had left her feeling ‘sick, dizzy and frightened’.

Mullin, who is unemployed, said that he bitterly regretted the attack and that he had pleaded guilty to the offences at the earliest opportunity.

The bench sentenced Mullin to a 12-month community order under which he must complete 50 days of rehabilitation work. He was also ordered to pay the victim £100 in compensation and was fined £50.

He was made the subject of a restraining order preventing him from entering his former home or contacting his wife.
