Headteacher’s delight at ‘best in county’ result

-

A HEADTEACHER has spoken of his delight after his school was named the best performing in Lancashire.

Green Haworth primary school in Accrington has topped the county league table after 100pc of key stage two pupils were found to meet expected standards.

The Department for Education examined SATs tests taken by pupils in year six, measuring children’s reading, writing and maths skills.

In Lancashire, 61pc of pupils reached the expected standard but Green Haworth scored the maximum possible.

Headteacher Phil Turner has thanked the ‘whole community’ for helping them achieve the result.

He said: “We are delighted that the school performance tables recognise the attainment of our pupils, who consistently work with dedication and a smile.

“It reflects that our children strive to be the best they can be; which is all we ask of them every day.

“Naturally, we must acknowledge that this has also been achieved through the equally hard work of a committed, enthusiastic staff who care deeply for our children and their future opportunities.

“Our staff have high expectations of each individual and each child is nurtured and supported to help them realise their full potential.

“We pride ourselves on having a good system of support and communication with parents in place and this also massively impacts of the results the children achieve.

“We benefit additionally from being supported by the wealth of knowledge and valuable skills from other local schools.”

Julie Hurley, chair of Governors, said they are ‘extremely proud’ of their year six children and SATs results.

She said: “We know of the hard work and dedication each and every child put into their work and revision leading up to the exams and it shows in their results.”

Rev Ian Enticott, school chaplain, added: “Our vision is to enable children to have not only the knowledge but also the attitudes, values and characteristics that will enable them to flourish in an ever-changing and demanding world.

“Removing barriers to learning is paramount.

“Pupil Premium children account for 40pc of our school community and we strive to ensure they have equal opportunities.”
