STUDENTS received a host awards at a school’s 59th annual speech night.
The ceremony at St Christopher’s C of E High School saw prizes presented in memory of a student who tragically died, as well as for top GCSE and A level results.
A newly-introduced prize for this year, the Megan Lee Trophy for Performing Arts, was awarded to former student Abigail Shovelton.
The prize is in memory of Megan Lee, a pupil of the school who died on January 1, 2017, and her parents were in the audience to see it being presented.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Bancroft walked away with the School Prize for Academic Merit in honour of her GCSE results of three grade 9, seven A* and one A. She is now studying A levels and hopes to go on to Cambridge University.
Meanwhile, Madeleine Gadd was presented with the School Prize for Consistent Effort, for GCSE results of three grade 9 and eight A*.
The Alasdair Coates Award for Best Academic Results went to Rachael Breare, who achieved A*, A*, A at A level and is now studying medicine at Leicester University.
A key prize was also awarded to Rebecca Hartley who is studying English at Cambridge University.
Headmaster Richard Jones gave a speech on the night, celebrating the school’s good Ofsted rating and the GCSE and A level pass rates, and recognising the science department’s year-long work to promote girls in science and engineering.
Meanwhile, the guest speaker was Stephen Whittaker, the Diocese of Blackburn director of education.
Mr Jones said: “Leading any school is a great privilege but particularly so for those fortunate enough to have been entrusted with leading a church school such as this.
“I have a fabulous job and one which I enjoy thoroughly.”
