SANDRA Clayton, of Accrington, died suddenly at her home on Thursday, July 19, aged 75.

The devoted and much loved wife of Arthur, she was loving mum of Julie and Graham, dear mother-in-law of Gina and Garry, treasured sister of Alan and nani to Erin.

Sandra started her working life as a receptioni­st for the GPO and later worked as a receptioni­st for Gilbraith’s Transport and as a clerical assistant at Asda Associated Dairies. She made many good friends and kept in touch with them following her retirement. Sandra always looked forward to her holidays, especially to Spain and also worldwide and enjoyed a cruise around the Caribbean and America.

She was devoted to her family and spent all her time with her husband of 52 years.

Sandra’s funeral service will take place at Accrington Crematoriu­m, Burnley Road, Accrington, on Tuesday, August 7, at 3pm.

SUSAN Snell passed away quietly at home in Accrington, with her husband Keith and twin sister Chris by her side, on Wednesday, July 25, aged 70.

Raised in Clayton-leMoors, Sue attended Mount Pleasant Primary School and later St Christophe­r Secondary.

She joined Clayton Baptist Church girls brigade and later was a regular attendee at Woodnook Baptist Church youth club which eventually led her to becoming a Christian.

Her first job was at English Electric doing the wages and after she and Keith were married she took a job at Whitbread Brewery where she stayed until taking early retirement in 1995. In the 1980s she took on the job of treasurer at Woodnook Church which was supposed to be temporary, but which lasted 17 years.

She also ran the Church Luncheon Club for 20 years, often delivering meals to those who could not attend because of ill health or bad weather.

Despite being a rough and tumble tomboy in her younger days Sue was always the quiet one who would watch and listen before stepping in to offer meaningful help and advice to defuse things when situations got out of hand.

Her hobby was her animals and the house always had two cats and two dogs, which she and Keith would take on walks in the nearby woodlands.

She regularly gave to charities and singled out the Salvation Army and The Dogs Trust as her favourites.

Sue leaves her husband Keith, sister Chris, nieces Leanne, Jay, Anne and Jennifer, nephew Dale, brothers-in-law Trevor and David and recently arrived great-niece Betsy.

A big thank you to the District Nurses who helped make her last few months so much easier.

Her funeral service will be held at Trinity Community Church, Accrington (formerly Christ Church), on Tuesday, August 7, at 12.45pm, prior to committal at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 1.40pm, conducted by Revd Tom Donaghey.

DOROTHY JONES

DOROTHY Jones, of Yew Tree Drive, Oswaldtwis­tle passed away peacefully but unexpected­ly on Tuesday, July 24, aged 79.

Anne, as she was known, was a stall holder on Accrington Market for many years.

In her spare time she enjoyed sailing, caravannin­g, camping and walking. She was a member of the Coniston Sailing Club for many years. She also took pleasure in knitting and dressmakin­g.

A dearly loved wife of Ken, she was a dear sister of Shirley, a much loved mother of Michael and Heather, a treasured grandma of Emma, Stacey, Rachel and Matthew, a cherished great-grandma of Leo, Zander and Alice, and also a dear auntie of Paul, Alex and Lesley and a good friend to many.

A celebratio­n of life service will be held on Friday, August 3 at 1.40pm, at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

CLAIRE POLLARD

CLAIRE Pollard, of Accrington, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family, aged 79.

The devoted and much loved wife of Brian, she was loving mum of Marie and Alicia, dear motherin-law of George and David, cherished nanna and great-grandma, dear sister and relative and friend to many.

Claire spent most of her working life as a sewing machinist at Hildens Manufactur­ers, a job which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a fantastic sewer and could turn her hand to anything.

In later years she worked as a carer and she made many good friends. She would talk to anyone about anything and had an infectious personalit­y.

Claire devoted her life to looking after her husband Brian. They were a devoted couple who always looked forward to time spent with the family. Together they enjoyed holidays both abroad and in the UK.

Claire also enjoyed her weekly trips to the seaside, especially Fleetwood and Cleveleys, and trips to the bingo with her daughters.

In her spare time, she was a keen knitter and enjoyed reading books about bygone times and crime dramas. She also enjoyed trying her luck with scratchcar­ds.

Claire’s funeral service will take place at Accrington Crematoriu­m, Burnley Road, Accrington, on Monday, August 6 at 3pm.

SUSAN SHARPLES

MRS Susan Sharples, of Whalley Road, Clayton-leMoors, died on Friday, July 27, at Woodlands Care Home, Clayton-leMoors, aged 74.

On leaving school she was a school meals kitchen supervisor for LCC. She left this role in order to look after her daughters.

She then ran a preschool playgroup in Great Harwood for a number of years and was well known as ‘Auntie Sue’.

She was a teacher’s assistant at St John’s Primary School, Great Harwood and then a shop assistant at ‘Grannies Workbox’, a sewing shop in Great Harwood.

In 1999 she was nominated for the ‘Lancashire Woman of the Year’ award.

In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, baking, entertaini­ng, knitting, dressmakin­g and quilting.

She leaves her husband Jeff, daughters Lisa and Megan, son-in-law Stephen, sister Pauline, granddaugh­ters Jessica and Georgia and many friends.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 8, at 1.40pm, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, conducted by the minister Trevor Hayes. Family flowers only please, donations are requested to the Alzheimer’s Society.

MARION BRADSHAW

MRS Marion Bradshaw, of Peel Park Avenue, Accrington, died on Monday, July 30, at home, aged 79.

Marion was a midday supervisor at Peel Park School for over 25 years.

A member of St John’s Church, Accrington, in her spare time she enjoyed bingo, spending time with family, cooking, knitting and arranging family parties at home.

Wife of the late James Reynolds Bradshaw, she leaves her children Julie, Andrew, Colin, Jane and Janet, and was nanna to Gemma, Liam, Rebecca, Reece, Ryan, Roan, Rose, Anthony, Lauren, McCauley, Adam and Elliott, and a great-nanna to George, Henry, Ella, Charlie, Kian and Willow.

The funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 9, at 11am, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, Burnley Road, conducted by the minister Ken Howles. Flowers are welcome and donations are requested to Cancer Research.

JAMES MOORES

MR James Moores, of Haywood Road, Accrington, died at Royal Blackburn Hospital on Monday, July 16 aged 57.

Known as ‘Moose’ he was self employed as a milkman for over 10 years. He also worked as a roofing fabricator for over 15 years and at Ultraframe and Prefix Systems.

He was a lifelong Blackburn Rovers fan and a lifelong fan of St Helens Rugby League Club. He was an England Supporters club member.

His hobbies and interests included walking, photograph­y, travelling, football, rugby, Formula One racing.

The beloved partner of Sue, devoted dad to Debbi, Lisa and Andrew. Son of the late Riley and Margaret, stepfather to Ian, Carley and Drew, adoring grandad to Bella and soon to be born Tommy James. Also Maggie, Amy, Molly, Shannon and Lewis.

The funeral will take place on Friday, August 3 at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 3pm officiated by Ken Howles.
