Stanley deserve greater support

Accrington Observer - - SPORT -

STANLEY manager John Coleman likened his side to Barcelona after Saturday’s 2-1 win against AFC Wimbledon – and just wishes there were more home supporters to appreciate his players.

Coleman was delighted as the Reds earned their first League One victory at home, producing some superb football along the way.

“I don’t want to be a moaning Minnie, but if Barcelona were playing in Accrington for a month, would we get more than 2,000 home fans coming?” he asked.

“You’d like to think we would, but some of the football we played in the first half hour was better than what Barcelona could ever perform at this level.

“We’re not getting the credit we deserve from the public of Accrington. It’s brilliant for the people who came and the atmosphere they make is great, but we need more people to witness the good football we play.

“I don’t know how much more we can do than play some of the breathtaking football we played in the first half hour.

“People are missing out, sadly.

“In the 19 years I’ve been here I can’t remember an Accrington team playing that well in that 30 minutes. We were unplayable and I wish more people would come and witness it.”
