ACCRINGTON Stanley suffered their first league away defeat of the season after coming up short against Shrewsbury Town.
Alex Gilliead got the only goal of the game just after the hour mark to earn Shrewsbury the win and condemn Stanley to defeat at New Meadow.
Accrington had to play the majority of the game with 10 men after Connor Ripley was sent off on 16 minutes, and Reds boss John Coleman was unhappy with the decision.
“It levelled the playing field. In the first 15 minutes were were breathtaking, and we had five shots in the first seven minutes,” he said.
“They couldn’t get the ball from us. When it was 10 vs 11 it became an even game. They had a lot of possession because they had the extra man, but they still didn’t really trouble our goalkeeper.
“I was disappointed with the goal because we gave the ball away and their lad has come in with a free header at the far post. We had defended well up to that point, but what you can’t govern for is circumstances transpiring against you.
“If it’s swings and roundabouts we’d get some decisions our way, but we probably had six or seven major decisions go against us. “Referees don’t do it on purpose. They make mistakes and you have to accept that it’s just human error. Sometimes
