high on confidence at the moment after three goals in the last week.

Zanzala netted the winner in the league game against Doncaster last week, before then scoring twice on Tuesday, and he is hoping to kick on.

“I am delighted to score two goals but scoring against Doncaster as well has boosted my confidence to keep scoring and getting into the habit of hitting the ball in the back of the net,” he told the club’s official website.

“Last week was emotional for me, getting my first goal of the season, and Tuesday has topped it off and given me confidence of taking on defenders and has helped me massively. Now I need to take it into the next game, keep performing every game and keep scoring goals.

“We are all fighting for our spot and want to win every game. You can see it in training, in games as well, and we have shown against Macclesfield than those who haven’t played much can perform and get the win. Now I am scoring, I have got my confidence and I hope I can carry it on.”

VIEW FROM THE CLAYTON END

A SECOND defeat of the season then and the momentum from last week has been lost a touch.

The trouble is it’s tough to really feel anything but positive at this moment in time.

We’re seventh in the league after 12 matches, I think if you’d have offered that to anyone in Accrington before a ball was kicked they’d have snatched your hand off. Offered it after the opener against Gillingham and they may have laughed you out of town.

But, that there is the beauty of John Coleman and the teams he builds at Stanley. In his postmatch interview last Saturday he said the referee had changed the game and it wasn’t a red card for Ripley. The decision may have changed the game, but it was certainly also a straight red. Ripley’s tendency to burst out of his box nearly cost us at home to Wimbledon last week and it cost us all three points at Shrewsbury.

A bit of rash decision making from the young keeper during what has otherwise been a very impressive start to life at Accrington.

We’re always facing an uphill battle from there on in and to lose by the one goal is no disgrace.

Shrewsbury has always been a tough place for us to go and their fans are excellent when they smell blood.

We did give the ball away for the goal which might be the only criticism I’d have of the lads.

I don’t want to dwell too much on the match because there isn’t really much point in the grand scheme of things.

It’s our first away defeat of the season, and it’s the third month of the season. What more can you say.

To midweek and we had a nice little run out against a side widely perceived to be the worst team in the football league
