GIRLS and boys dancing the night away at a church disco are shown in this week’s Looking Back.
More than 100 smartly dressed youngsters took part in the event at St Charles RC Church and music was provided by the church’s over 14’s group.
The picture (below right) was taken by former Observer photographer Garth Dawson in the 1970’s.
Volunteers rallied to support the Oswaldtwistle Youth Group at their annual meeting after an article in the Observer (left-centre).

Accrington High School Girl Wendy Oldham struck a blow for International Women’s Year by receiving a Post Office Studentship in communications and engineering science. The previous year only 20 places were awarded and all went to men.
She is pictured with fellow pupil Susan Ridyard (top right) who gained a place at Cambridge University.
Winning trophies was a piece of cake for Baxenden girl Enid Wood (bottom left).
The 20-year-old was awarded the Goldex Cup for cake decorating at Blackburn College. She also won the Renshaw Cup which included an all expenses paid trip to London.
