Club onside for food appeal
ACCRINGTON Stanley will host a food bank collection in aid of Maundy Relief.
Fans, families and members of the community are being urged to bring along food items for donation at the Reds next home game against Portsmouth tomorrow (Saturday, October 27).
The items will be collected at the ground from 12.30pm to 3pm and then transported to Maundy Relief’s drop-in centre on Charter Street in Accrington.
Actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, a Maundy Relief patron, said she is ‘over the moon’ that Accrington Stanley are helping to collect ‘much needed supplies’ for the charity.
She said: “At the moment we’re giving out five or so parcels a day to people who can’t afford the basics; and the need to keep our cupboards well stocked has never been greater.
“This will help the Maundy staff and volunteers enormously as they struggle to meet the increasing need for food bank donations in the area. Thank you.”
Suggested items for donation include tinned fish and meat, tinned veg and beans, cooking oils, dried pasta and herbs, instant mash, cereal and powdered milk.
