Draw felt like loss for boss

-

JOHN Coleman says it felt a bit like his side had suffered a defeat following Accrington Stanley’s 1-1 draw away to Coventry City on Saturday.

Stanley were leading 1-0 thanks to a goal from Offrande Zanzala just before the hour mark, but Michael Doyle equalised for the home side on 87 minutes to deny Accrington the victory.

While Coleman says there were plenty of positives to take from the game, he admits that missing out on the win during the closing stages was a bitter pill to swallow.

“It feels a bit like a defeat when that happens, but I can’t fault the players as they were fantastic in the second half,” he said.

“I think it’s the first time we haven’t won after taking the lead in around 28 games, so that had to go at some point. We also stopped them from winning their sixth game on the bounce so we lost a record and so did they.

“In the first half both teams cancelled each other out and there was no real creativity. They had a good chance and their lad headed it over the bar, but then we’ve had a good chance where Jordan Clark hit the bar.

“There was nothing really in the first half and I was a bit disappointed we didn’t stamp our authority and play our game, but we came out of the traps in the second half on top.

“We won every game and must have had five corners in the first five minutes of the second half. We deservedly got the lead and it was a shame that we couldn’t see it out.

“It’s always disappointing when you concede from a build up that has come from a throw-in, as we could have had people in better positions.”
