Church Kirk boys play in all weathers

THE Church Kirk primary school football team is shown in Looking Back this week.

The picture (shown top left) was submitted by Observer reader Peter Ashworth and was taken in 1960 at Moor End school in Oswaldtwistle.

It shows (back row) Allan, Chew, Rawlinson, Osborne, Lonsdale, Baird, (front row) McGloughlin, Faud, Ireland, Ashworth and Clark.

Around 30 children from Christ Church CE Primary School in Accrington raised around £200 for school funds from a sponsored walk in the 1970’s.

The route was round Oak Hill Park and some children managed 20 laps.

Pictured (bottom right) at the event are headmistress Mrs Neild and Mr J Cavanagh with children taking part.

A ‘cryosat’ cancer screening machine was presented to Accrington Victoria Hospital by members of Accrington Round Table in 1975.

Pictured (centre, left) at the presentation is nurse S Martin, staff nurse Donnelly, Mr R Crossley, Mr P Robinson, Dr W Turner, nurse S Southworth, Mr M Bridgett and Round Table chairman Ian Cavannagh.

A group of residents tried to form a ‘ Good Neighbour’ group in Hyndburn through a scheme by Age Concern.

Councillor Annie Sudders held a meeting at her house and is pictured (bottom left) with Evelyn Hart, Age Concern Lancashire secretary Peter Montague and Irene Bamber.

Our final picture (below) shows members of the Whalley Road Amateur Dramatic Society as they prepared for the Phillip Johnson drama ‘Who lies there?’

The cast included Walter Reed, Allan Dawson, May Spivey, Tony Gardener, John Norris, Connie Higgin, Margaret Gardener, Joan Dawson and Josie Burke.
