the Wham Stadium, but an equaliser in the second half from Scott Kashket, along with a stoppage time winner from Alex Samuel condemned Stanley to defeat.

It has seen them drop to 11th place in the League One table, and manager John Coleman was frustrated to come up short.

“How we’ve only scored one goal I don’t know. We’re having to make too many chances for ourselves because we’re missing too many. Our inability to kill teams off has come back to bite us on the backside again,” he said. “I thought we were outstanding in the first half and we had some great chances. We possibly should have had a penalty right on the stroke of half-time too.

“The game was too open and too stretched, and I don’t know why we’ve allowed that to happen. They made changes in the second half to try and combat us because we were pretty much doing what we wanted.

“Our fans got a bit bored with us keeping the ball, but we were winning 1-0 and didn’t have to do anything as we could draw them out. We lost our patience and then tried to thread balls through a needle and got countered.

“At 1-0 with 13 minutes to go we’ve gone to make a substitution and the curse of the substitution happens again as they scored.

“It was a terrible goal from our point of view as we were too deep. The ball was played into the lad’s chest and he’s allowed to turn and score in the bottom corner.

“Some of the football we played was excellent and Wycombe will feel fortunate to win. They only had two shots on our goal and their goalkeeper has made around five world class saves.

“We definitely should have had a penalty in the last minute before they snatched the winner, but it’s about putting the ball in the net and we’ve got to work harder to do that.”

Stanley were lively in the opening stages of the game, and it didn’t take them long to make the breakthrough. Jordan Clark and Billy Kee had both had initial shots blocked, before McConville then slotted home on 15 minutes to score his seventh goal of the season and make hosts.

There were further opportunities for Accrington, with Wycombe’s onloan Birmingham goalkeeper David Stockdale having to come to the rescue to ensure his team didn’t concede further goals.

First he kept out a curling effort from Sam Finley, before then pushing out an attempt from Kee. The Stanley forward was involved again just before the interval as he fired a shot at goal, but it smashed back off the crossbar and fell into the arms of a relieved Stockdale. The Reds thought they should have had a penalty on the stroke of half-time, but it wasn’t given.

It was a quieter second half, with neither side able to create any major opportunities as the match approached the closing stages. Accrington still seemed the more likely team to get a goal, but that changed when Wycombe levelled things up on 77 minutes.

A cross into the box by Dominic Gape was met by substitute Kashket, who drilled the ball home to equalise and make it 1-1.

Wycombe then made their opponents pay for their missed chances when they got an unlikely winner in the dying seconds. Samuel fired through a sea of bodies to find the net, making the final score 2-1 and condemning Accrington to defeat. it 1-0 to the
