Accrington Observer - - WILDLIFE -

VOLUNTEERS are being sought to set up a residents group after the disbandment of a long-running area forum.

Residents and councillors held a public meeting at Oswaldtwistle Social Club to lay the groundwork for a new support group which would promote Oswaldtwistle, act as a support group for the township and help projects and good causes in the area.

The Observer reported in October how the Oswaldtwistle Area Forum was disbanded after council bosses emptied their bank account.

Councillor Marlene Haworth told the meeting that they ‘need to move forward’ and the new group will have ‘nothing to do with the council’.

She said: “The more residents that we can get involved in it the better it will be.”

Coun Haworth said they need to form a new committee and ‘desperately need’ a chairman, secretary and treasurer.

Rev Anthony Roberts, who has put his name forward to chair the group, said: “All politics should be left at the door.

“It should be about the people of Oswaldtwistle and what’s best for them.”

The next meeting will be held at the Social Club on February 25 at 7.30pm.
