Hall sees his dream goal taken from him

-

CONNOR Hall felt like he had one of his dreams shattered after his first league goal on Saturday now won’t count due to the match with Sunderland being abandoned.

Hall scored on 69 minutes to cancel out Chris Maguire’s opener, but just minutes later the match was called off due to the heavy rain that continued to fall at the Wham Stadium.

It means that Hall’s goal at the weekend will no longer be recognised, something which has frustrated him, especially because of the opponent it came against.

“It’s gutting, especially being a Newcastle fan as my dad is from there,” he told the club’s official website. “Once the ball went in it was one of the best feelings of my life.

“When you’re a kid you dream of scoring your first league goal – and mine was in front of a record crowd and against Sunderland! I was buzzing then about five minutes after I thought just my luck it would be called off.

“It was tough conditions, the last play was me trying to dribble the ball and it got stuck under my feet so it’s a tricky one. It won’t count on the stats – but it counts for me! I will just have to score against in the re-arranged game.”

THREE Judo players from Bredakwai Judo Academy in Accrington are celebrating their success after some strong performances at the British Judo Championships held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield earlier this month.

Jay Cronshaw, 14, narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the -42kg group, but was able to come away with two wins moving him to eighth position in Great Britain in his category.

On Sunday Isaac Hope, 12, and Jamie De’ath 13 both won five contests each with a single loss to secure third place finishes.

The British Championships is the biggest competition of the year and a strong indicator of who will represent Team GB in the future.

Bredakwai Judo will be hoping for more success next weekend as Tegan Davies and Lewis Halt, both 17, attempt to secure a place on the GB junior squad at the British -21 Championships on the 8th December.

If anyone is interested in joining the Judo club they should contact Bredakwai Judo through the club’s Facebook or Twitter pages.
