TAL­ENTED young math­e­ma­ti­cians have com­peted in an in­ter-pri­mary school quiz.

The an­nual Mad 4 Maths con­test was or­gan­ised and hosted by Mount Carmel RC High School’s maths depart­ment in Ac­cring­ton.

Eigh­teen teams un­der­took three com­pet­i­tive rounds in­clud­ing one us­ing QR codes, ge­om­e­try ques­tions and a trea­sure hunt prob­lem solv­ing round.

Pupils from St Mary’s RC pri­mary school in Oswaldtwistle won the com­pe­ti­tion with Sa­cred Heart Pri­mary fin­ish­ing run­ners-up and St Oswald’s Pri­mary in Knuz­den com­ing third.

Mount Carmel year 11 pupils as­sisted with the scor­ing along with year 7 pupils who helped dur­ing the evening.

Sue Field­ing, school part­ner­ship man­ager, said: “The largest au­di­ence to date came along with ap­prox­i­mately 120 par­ents, grand­par­ents and pri­mary school staff sup­port­ing the teams and they had the op­por­tu­nity to en­ter a par­ents’ prize quiz and raf­fle.

“Re­fresh­ments were served dur­ing the in­ter­val by Mount Carmel Par­ent Teacher and Friends As­so­ci­a­tion.”
