TALENTED young mathematic­ians have competed in an inter-primary school quiz.

The annual Mad 4 Maths contest was organised and hosted by Mount Carmel RC High School’s maths department in Accrington.

Eighteen teams undertook three competitiv­e rounds including one using QR codes, geometry questions and a treasure hunt problem solving round.

Pupils from St Mary’s RC primary school in Oswaldtwis­tle won the competitio­n with Sacred Heart Primary finishing runners-up and St Oswald’s Primary in Knuzden coming third.

Mount Carmel year 11 pupils assisted with the scoring along with year 7 pupils who helped during the evening.

Sue Fielding, school partnershi­p manager, said: “The largest audience to date came along with approximat­ely 120 parents, grandparen­ts and primary school staff supporting the teams and they had the opportunit­y to enter a parents’ prize quiz and raffle.

“Refreshmen­ts were served during the interval by Mount Carmel Parent Teacher and Friends Associatio­n.”
