Gang of ma­chete thugs stab man

A MAN was hos­pi­talised with stab wounds af­ter a gang of six thugs armed with ma­chetes burst into a house.

Po­lice were called to a ‘dis­tur­bance’ at a prop­erty on Cle­ment Street in Ac­cring­ton shortly af­ter 11pm on Tues­day, Jan­uary 1, in which three men were as­saulted.

One of the vic­tims is be­ing treated in hospi­tal with stab wounds which are ‘se­ri­ous but not be­lieved to be lifethreat­en­ing’. A sec­ond vic­tim re­fused med­i­cal treat­ment and a third had left the house be­fore of­fi­cers ar­rived.

Lan­cashire Po­lice say they be­lieve it to have been a ‘tar­geted at­tack’.

A spokesper­son said: “We at­tended and found three men had been as­saulted af­ter a group of ap­prox­i­mately six men had en­tered the ad­dress armed with ma­chetes.

“We have since ar­rested a 55-year-old woman from Ac­cring­ton on sus­pi­cion of GBH and she re­mains in cus­tody.

“Our en­quiries are on­go­ing but we be­lieve this was a tar­geted at­tack and there is cur­rently not thought to be any wider threat to the pub­lic.

“How­ever we have in­creased pa­trols in the area as a pre­cau­tion.”
