Youngsters take on panto challenge

TALENTED young actors were given the unique challenge of learning and performing a pantomime in just ONE day.

Cassandra Webster, principal of the ReAct Academy of Theatre Arts in Oswaldtwistle, organised the challenge following the success of recent summer schools.

Around 20 children, aged between four and 13, were tasked with learning their lines and four songs before performing on stage in front of family and friends at the Civic Arts Centre and Theatre.

Cassandra said the 15-minute show was an original pantomime using fairy tale characters Jack, Gretel, Rapunzel and the White Witch.

She said: “It was really good. We have done lots of musicals and shows since we started in 2010 but this is the first time we have done it in just one day.

“We always have quite a long Christmas and New Year break and a lot of our kids say they miss coming to classes.

“We have done weeklong summer schools and managed to put on fantas- tic shows so why not do something of a similar vein, make it festive and just in one day?

“The parents were amazed and the kids had a great time.”
