Nightclub plan for former I Candy bar
A DEFUNCT town centre lap-dancing bar is set to be converted into a nightclub.
I Candy, Accrington’s first lap-dancing bar, opened amid controversy in 2012 despite protesters handing in a 1,500-signature petition against it.
The venue at 55-59 Blackburn Road, next to the new £2 million town square, closed around five years ago and could now be transformed into a 130-capacity nightclub.
Applicant Bradley Green, from Burnley, has submitted proposals to Hyndburn council to convert the first-floor lap-dancing club into a bar and dance floor area the and second floor office space into a new lounge.
The outside of the 1930s Art Deco-style building will remain unaltered.
Documents sent to the council by Accringtonbased planning agents The Intelligent Design Centre said: “It is Mr Green’s intention to develop a nightclub within a redundant building within the heart of Accrington town centre.
“It is believed that the proposed change of use from a lap-dancing club to a nightclub is a positive.”
The ground-floor restaurant will remain unaffected by the scheme.
A decision will be made in the next few months.
