More than 4,000 trees were planted in Hyndburn following a survey under the job creation programme (bottom left). Mayor Allan Critchlow was pictured lending a hand by planting silver birch trees at the junction of Fife Street and Moorhouse Avenue in Accrington.

A St Valentine’s disco was organised by Accrington Football Referees social committee (left). Around 300 people attended the Majestic Ballroom in Accrington and raised nearly £100. The picture shows Mrs B Berry, Mr R Berry, Mr D G Courtney, Mr H Roberts and Mrs P Roberts.

The annual international evening and candle lighting ceremony of Accrington Business and Professional Women’s Club is shown in our next photograph (right). More than 50 women attended the event at Oswaldtwistle Town Hall and pictured (left to right) are Helen Houldsworth, Mayoress Maureen Critchlow, Jean Midgley and Brenda Maudsley.

In our final photo this week (bottom right), a slide show and treasure hunt were some of the fun activities at a children’s gift weekend at Great Harwood’s Central Methodist Church.
