Apartments plan for former DWP building

-

A FORMER Department for Work and Pensions building could be transformed into 45 apartments and studios.

Plans have been submitted to Hyndburn council to convert the large building off Eastgate in Accrington into new homes after it sold for £550,000 at auction in October 2018.

The application has been made by Yorkshirebased company Prospect Estates Ltd. Planning agents Roger Lee Planning Ltd said the scheme would involve no highways, parking, noise or flooding issues.

The building will be turned into a mix of 28-one bed and four two-bed apartments and 13 one-bed studios.

Parking will be provided for 18 vehicles, including one disabled bay, and the existing access points on Water Street and Back Burnley Road will be retained. Provision will also be made for secured cycle parking.

A planning statement said: “The site is in a sustainable central location with alternative modes of transport other than the private car readily available, including bus services which are within walking distance.”

A decision will be made by planning officers in the next few months.
