MY CONCERN IS LIVELIHOODS

-

LET me firstly thank Brian Livesey enquiring about my health (Letters, December 21).

I have no problem whatsoever getting out of bed in the morning.

I would be full of doom and gloom if his brand of socialism ever got into power in Britain, so I sleep well at night because it’s highly unlikely that that will ever happen.

My concern is firstly to support the 250,000-plus families in this country whose living depend directly or indirectly on the arms industry, and we don’t know what the political beliefs are of these people, some may even be socialists.

Britain has now been passed by Russia as the second largest arms dealer in the world, pushing Britain into third place.

Russian companies have now signed 1,100 contracts with 40 countries in the past year, an increase of 8.5 per cent compared to Britain’s 2.3pc increase. They have even tested over 200 new weapons in Syria, said Mr Shamanov. A.P. Moxham Great Harwood
