He seems to be unaware that nurses are currently abandoning the NHS in droves, leaving a shortfall of some 40,000 places.

Concern was expressed only last month about unqualified nursing assistants doing nurses’ work.

As for the plundering of what Mr Jones refers to as “third-world” countries, the pressures of the global market system forces workers to keep on the move to try to optimise their economic prospects.

He might as well criticise Brits for emigrating to Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Instead, Mr Jones resorts to antiimmigration rhetoric that appeals to the blind prejudices of the mob. Brian Livesey Accrington
