Bowlers en­joyed League tri­umph

VIC­TO­RI­OUS bowl­ing club mem­bers fea­ture in this week’s Look­ing Back col­umn.

Oswaldtwistle Con­ser­va­tive Bowl­ing Club won the Great Har­wood League in 1977. The pic­ture (top left), taken by Garth Daw­son, shows Anne Cheetham hand­ing over the tro­phy to team cap­tain W Roberts and other team mem­bers watch­ing.

Our next pic­ture (top right) shows res­i­dents en­joy­ing a Christ­mas din­ner at Christ Church. They in­cluded Mr M Ku­vecalovic, of Bax­en­den, Mr and Mrs Ho­race Heap, of Ac­cring­ton, Mrs G Storey, ten-yearold Susan White and Mrs Mar­ion Heap.

Eric Dow­ber, the li­censee of the Wellington Arms in Clay­ton-le-Moors, en­ter­tained 30 pen­sion­ers to a sea­sonal din­ner (right). Each one was given a £1 present and the money for the din­ner was raised by do­na­tions, spe­cial ef­forts and a bot­tle on the bar which had been filled by cus­tomers.

Around 100 chil­dren gath­ered at Ha­worth Art Gallery for a three-day arts and crafts project.
