Bowlers enjoyed League triumph

-

VICTORIOUS bowling club members feature in this week’s Looking Back column.

Oswaldtwistle Conservative Bowling Club won the Great Harwood League in 1977. The picture (top left), taken by Garth Dawson, shows Anne Cheetham handing over the trophy to team captain W Roberts and other team members watching.

Our next picture (top right) shows residents enjoying a Christmas dinner at Christ Church. They included Mr M Kuvecalovic, of Baxenden, Mr and Mrs Horace Heap, of Accrington, Mrs G Storey, ten-yearold Susan White and Mrs Marion Heap.

Eric Dowber, the licensee of the Wellington Arms in Clayton-le-Moors, entertained 30 pensioners to a seasonal dinner (right). Each one was given a £1 present and the money for the dinner was raised by donations, special efforts and a bottle on the bar which had been filled by customers.

Around 100 children gathered at Haworth Art Gallery for a three-day arts and crafts project.

The first picture (bottom right) shows Ruth Winterbottom, aged seven, Claire Jones, eight, Anne McArthur, eight and Ruth’s ten-year-old sister Jane making handmade puppets.

The second picture (bottom left) shows Joanne Love, 11, Naomi Bartholomew, eight, Charlotte Wilkinson, seven, and Sally Thompson, five, creating collages with Artsquad leader John Virtue.
