BREXIT WILL BRING DECLINE

YOU have only had to watch Newsnight or the Daily Politics shows over the past two years and seen and hear the shambolic debates by MPs from all parties and the so called experts who can’t agree on virtually anything when it comes to Brexit.

This is one reason why I believe that Brexit is a mistake that will see the United Kingdom in decline militarily, financially, and politically in the world over the coming years.

Germany and France are becoming more dominant especially as they are now talking about integrating together to become stronger in power and influence in the EU. As they integrate they will invite regions on either side of the Franco/German border to be encouraged to form Eurodistricts with merged water, electric, and public transport networks.

Berlin and France will offer cash incentives to these areas that could involve shared hospitals, joint business schemes or environmental projects.

Both countries are lobbying for Germany to have a permanent seat on the United Nations security council.

If the United Kingdom remains in the EU they could veto this kind of scheme that is only going to be beneficial to them.

If we leave the EU these two countries power will be in the ascendence as the United Kingdom will be in decline.

There is talk now of them wanting to remove Airbus from the United Kingdom with the loss of 15,000 jobs in Wales and a further 105,000 in the supply chain throughout the United Kingdom. If we get it wrong, then the United Kingdom could end up like the Roman and Greek empires with no influence in the world. Just a hasbeen world power, consigned to the history books. A P Moxham Great Harwood HUGH Davies, from Accrington, pays tribute to much-loved TV weather forecaster Dianne Oxberry, who died this week aged 51. WHAT you’ve been saying on our Facebook page:

SCHOOL uniform bank set up to help families suffering financial hardship (January 11) Maggie Tierney: Any school worth its salt would encourage recycling of school uniform. Used clean uniforms can be sold to pupils for small amounts and money goes back to school. It does not generate thousands, maybe not hundreds, but families/pupils benefit. Our local school does it, has done for many years. Samina Mahmood: It shouldn’t be this way. We used to get vouchers to buy uniforms for free. There’s something horrible about the austerity measures. Totally annoyed that it’s come to this! Well done Theresa May for spending on Brexit instead of our children. Ian Entwistle: Would be even better if schools only had one item with a badge on. Why do they need a badge on a white polo shirt underneath their badged sweatshirts? If all bar one item was generic supermarket it would be a lot easier for parents. Susan Wilson: We always had a school shop where second hand uniforms could be bought. Poverty is not new. Natalie Lynas: Surely it would make sense for schools to take donations of old school uniforms to pass on to those who need them? I had jumpers and polo shirts with school logos on still fit for use, some hardly worn, so asked the school if I could donate them to be told they don’t take them. They ended up going to a charity shop but people don’t think to look in charity shops for school uniforms with logos on so they probably ended up being ragged. Lesley Wharton: It’s so sad uniforms are so much cheaper than they ever were. It’s scandalous that families can’t afford them. Just like food banks. Wendy McLean: Good idea. Could do with shoe vouchers too. Ian Ormerod: Scrap the uniforms. They don’t have them in Sweden and I remember on an exchange from Germany how much it amused their school children seeing ours in uniforms. It is a throwback to public schools. Where else do girls have to wear ties?

SHERWOOD House care home rated ‘good’ in all areas by CQC watchdog (January 11): Jackie Watts: Pleased to hear of a positive report regarding a local care home. People in care need to be respected and stimulated not left stagnating in their rooms or chairs in a lounge! Mandy Hird Stevens: That’s brilliant news. Well done all. Jessica Wells: Awwww miss working there! x Maria Payne: That’s what I like too see x Angela Birtwistle: Fantastic. Mavis Harrison: Well done.
