ROTARY CLUB OF CHURCH AND OSWALDTWISTLE

-

THE members of Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary would like to take the opportunity of thanking all the residents of Church and Oswaldtwistle for contributing £4,596 from the house to house collections during the month of December, when Santa and his sleigh toured the district.

In addition to this figure £2,404 was raised by collections at Asda and Tesco, when individual cheques for £601 were presented to Action for Dementia, East Lancashire Hospice, NSPCC and the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

Ken Freeman, fundraising chairman for the club who was the lead organiser, paid tribute to the ‘teams’ of people who assisted club Rotarians, along with Friends of Rotary, ensuring a full complement of volunteers turning out during the evening street collections.

Also, a special thank you must go to the many volunteers who attended the supermarket collections in support of their own charity.

These organisations were Team Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School and Team Oswaldtwistle Mills.

President of Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary Lyndon Heap paid tribute to the local community, he said: “I would like to place on record our appreciation to all the residents in the Church and Oswaldtwistle area who have shown great support for the Rotary Club’s annual Santa visits with such generous donations, this year and in the past.

“Ken Freeman, our fundraising chairman, must also take a lot of the credit for ensuring all aspects of this major event were so well organised and ultimately led to its success.

“Also I would like to thank the management at Asda and Tesco for allowing the collections to take place and to Stephen Norton who allowed the storage of Santa’s Sleigh in his unit at Sadler Street, Oswaldtwistle.”

For information, Santa and his sleigh visited: 11 nights in Church and Oswaldtwistle during December, two schools: Broadfield and White Ash and the switching on of the Christmas lights at Aspen Fold, Oswaldtwistle.

Santa reliably informs us that the children ‘munched’ through 31 boxes of chocolates!

Without doubt the success of this December collection was due to the two teams of volunteers, and many Friends of Rotary who turned out in such good numbers.

The Rotary club would be delighted to hear from other organisations who would like to take part in next year’s event or help out at the annual Charity Walk.
