‘Sickening’ Facebook group is removed

-

A ‘SICKENING’ Facebook group has been removed after residents in Hyndburn called on the community to report it.

The group had reportedly seen people sharing images of school children. Social media giant Facebook launched an investigation into the group and later removed it from the platform.

Previously posted content within the group was found to violate Facebook’s policies.

A Facebook spokesperson said: “The exploitation of children on the internet is a challenge we take extremely seriously.

“We work closely with child protection experts, the police, and industry to block and remove exploitative photos and videos, and to prevent online grooming.

“Our technology proactively searches for evidence of child sexual exploitation on Facebook which we notify law enforcement of, and our reporting tools allow people to report any profile, post or piece of content to our team of reviewers.”

Facebook has now deleted the group from the social media site.

The action was taken after members of the Hyndburn Chatters Facebook group flagged up concerns with the other group.

Hyndburn Chatters is the Facebook group set up to unite the people of Hyndburn.

Kay Aspinall, admin of Hyndburn Chatters, said: “These children shouldn’t be exploited.

“I bet many of them won’t even know their photo has been taken.”

Lancashire Constabulary say they are unable to comment on this particular group until it has been reported to them.
