Man who went on run from gun trial is jailed

-

A CONVICTED gun conspirator who went on the run from court during the middle to his trial has been jailed’.

Hasriat Omar Khan, of Accrington, was found guilty at Preston Crown Court in April of one count of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

It related to an incident in Haslingden in May 2017 where a sawn-off shotgun was blasted at a home on Beaconsfield Street.

Children were asleep in the premises at the time, but nobody was injured.

Khan was sentenced in his absence after failing to attend the end of the trial to a nine-year prison sentence and a warrant was issued for his arrest on April 11.

The 32-year-old was eventually arrested in Blackburn on June 17 and officers used a stinger device to deflate his Peugeot Boxer’s tyres after he tried to flee.

Khan was hauled back to Preston Crown Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to failing to surrender into custody having been released on bail.

Judge Heather Lloyd jailed Khan, formerly of Moorland View, Ramsbottom, to an extra 28 days in prison for breaching his bail.

The defendant pleaded at Blackburn Magistrates Court last month to driving without due care and attention, driving while disqualified and without insurance and failing to stop a vehicle when required to do so by police.

He was jailed for 16 weeks - consecutive to the nine-year sentence - and banned from driving for 30 months.
