Dad threatened woman with a hammer outside her home

-

A FATHER threatened a woman with a hammer outside her home after a dispute between children, a court has heard.

Jason Peter Mayers, 29, of George Street, Oswaldtwistle, Accrington, told the woman he would ‘shove the hammer down her throat and knock her teeth out’ after he confronted her.

Prosecutor Alex Mann, told Blackburn Magistrates’ Court that the incident happened on January 13 this year at Northfield Road, Rising Bridge.

She said: “The defendant drove to the address with the hammer in the boot and asked a child outside for the address he was looking for.

“He knocked on the door and at first the woman did not realise he had a weapon.

“She said to him ‘how old are you?’ to which he replied ‘where’s your husband, I’ll knock his teeth out’.

“Holding the hammer he then said ‘I’ll show you how old I am, I’ll shove this down the back of your throat and knock your teeth out’.”

The court heard that the offence took place in front of children.

Mayers pleaded guilty to threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place.

Mayers also pleaded guilty to a separate theft offence of stealing diesel worth £72.46 from the Tesco Extra petrol station on Eagle Street, Accrington, on June 15 this year.

On that occasion, using a vehicle with false number plates, he drove off with the fuel without paying.

Helen Farnsworth, defending, said her client was ‘ashamed to be here’ and he realised that his actions were a ‘massive overreaction’.

She said at the time Mayers ‘felt under pressure’ and said she felt that he would benefit from the intervention of probation services to aid his thinking skills and anger management.

She added that he had been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, autism and attention deficit disorder.

For the theft offence Mayers was ordered by the bench to pay £72.46 to Tesco in compensation.

For the weapon offence the bench ordered the case to be sentenced at Burnley Crown Court on August 27 and asked for reports to be compiled in the interim with all sentencing options, including custody, to be considered.
