Coley upbeat ahead of tough Posh clash

-

ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman was extremely confident that his side would have been able to topple a difficult opponent for the second game in a row as they prepared to face Peterborough United.

The two teams were due to meet at the Weston Homes Stadium as the

Observer went to print on Wednesday, and Coleman was confident that his team could upset the odds.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s match, Coleman told the club’s official website: “Peterborough catch the eye, like Oxford and Ipswich, they play an attacking brand of football and have scored loads of goals. When they get it right they are very good. They have an exceptional striker in Ivan Toney and he is just one of many who will be a handful.

“They will be up for it but we are too, we will go into it confident having beat the league leaders on Sunday. We went there and won last season so we know we can do it.

“We know in football there is a large element of luck and we had the rub of the green. I think we played as well against Rochdale the week before but we lost that game and then I think we got the breaks against Ipswich.

“But we need to go on a run now, we need to get our heads down and pick up the wins which I think our performances have merited. We’re without

Ross Sykes and Jerome Opoku, and it’s a chance for people to step up. It’s hard as I don’t think all Jerome’s bookings have been yellow cards and Ross, he has pushed their lad in the chest not his head but it will be viewed as aggressive so it’s not worth an appeal.

You have to take it on the chin. The thing is Ross has learned the hard way. He has been in great form and now it’s a three game ban so it’s a blow for him and for us. I think, though, it will make him a better and stronger player.”
