Harvey determined to take chance

-

ACCRINGTON Stanley defender Harvey Rodgers plans on taking full advantage of the new opportunity that has been handed to him after featuring in his side’s last two league games.

Rodgers has started the matches against Rotherham United and Bolton Wanderers in recent weeks, and now hopes that he can kick on from here, starting with this Saturday’s trip to Prenton Park to take on Tranmere Rovers.

“It’s been a long process and I’ve had to wait a while, so I just had to try and keep my head down and keep fit and wait for my chance,” he told the club’s official website.

“Luckily because of a few suspensions and stuff, it meant that I got my chance and I think I’ve taken it pretty well.

“I don’t mind playing at either centre-back or right-back as long as I get to play, but I probably prefer playing as a centre-back as it’s a lot less running.

“I do like getting forward when playing at right-back, it’s just the getting back afterwards that I don’t enjoy.

“Luckily I’ve got Sam (Finley) and a few others that will fill in for me, so I don’t mind it and I do enjoy playing at right-back.

“We put so much focus on winning the last game against

Bolton that it meant that we stuck together and got the win. We didn’t expect to win 7-1 but we deserved it in the end and looking back on it, we played really well. It could have been more because we put that much energy into it and I think that showed in the end.

“It was nice to have a weekend off because games come thick and fast. It’s nice to have a weekend off and relax, and some of the other lads got to go and see their families.

“Everyone has come back this week switched on ahead of another massive game this Saturday. If we can go there and get the three points, we’ll hopefully start climbing the league and get ourselves out of that bit of trouble that we’re in.”
