CATHERINE BRYDON

-

MRS Catherine Brydon – a native of Scotland - known as Irene, of Addison Court Care Home, Accrington, passed away on Wednesday, November

27, aged 94.

When Irene left school she went to work at an aerodrome where she originally painted bull’s eyes on Spitfire planes, before later becoming a clerk in the office there. After moving to

Accrington many years ago, due to her husband Ian signing for Accrington Stanley FC and after settling here, she eventually became a home help.

She was a well-known figure as a home help in Accrington and she went above and beyond in helping everyone she saw.

She retired – eventually – from her job as a domestic at Accrington Victoria Hospital, and especially loved working on the Maternity Ward so she could see all the new babies.

Irene loved to knit when younger, making the children’s jumpers and things for other people. When her grandchildren came along she loved knitting things for them.

She took pride in her gardens wherever she lived. She loved to travel, Malta being her favourite place. She travelled mainly to Europe, also visiting the Ukraine for a wedding. She always loved a game of bingo and was always very lucky. She loved to read autobiographies and anything about the Royal Family.

Beloved wife of the late Ian, she was the dearlyloved mother of the late Jack, cherished mother of Stanley and Catherine.

She was also mother-inlaw to Kevin, dearly-loved grandma and greatgrandma, and a good friend to many.

A funeral service was due to take place at 2.20pm on Thursday, December 5, at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road, Accrington, administered by Rev. Enid Briggs.

Family flowers only please, however donations, if desired, gratefully received in Irene’s memory to the British Heart Foundation.

The family would like to thank the staff at Addison Court for the care Irene received, and who always said Irene was a real character. Thanks also to Dr Cooper and Dr Robinson for their care and attention to Mum and for the care from the District Nurses.

Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Service, Queen’s Road, Accrington.
