MRS Irene Elizabeth Walsh passed away peacefully in hospital on Monday, November 25, aged 92.

Along with her late husband Les, Irene ran their own business – a plumbers’ merchants Les Walsh Ltd - on Blackburn Road, Accrington for approximat­ely 20 years.

During this time she was also in charge of the junior Peter Pan Club, based at White Ash school in Oswaldtwis­tle.

Following this she began a career in caring for the elderly, firstly at Hilltop Care Home in Baxenden and finally at Hillside Home for the Elderly in Blackburn, where she worked for several years up to her retirement.

Irene enjoyed holidaying in her touring caravan, her favourite places being Knott End and Blackpool. She loved listening to all sorts of music, but without doubt her favourite artist was Tom Jones. She enjoyed watching various TV programmes, especially the soaps.

Irene was the wife of the late Les, and a muchloved mother of Susan and the late John. She was the precious nanna of James and Gemma and loving sister of Joan. She was also a dear Auntie to many nieces and nephews.

Irene will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

The funeral service will take place at 10am on Monday, December 9, at St John’s C of E Church, Baxenden, followed by an interment at Immanuel Churchyard, New Lane, Oswaldtwis­tle, officiated by Rev. Tom Donaghey.

The family are open to flowers, however donations if desired, are suggested in memory of Irene to Age UK c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington.
