Panto season is upon us
THE cast of pantomime ‘Babes in the Wood’ feature in Looking Back this week.
Pictured above, it was presented by the ACME Youth Club and the St Bartholomew’s junior church members in Great Harwood to a sell-out crowd in 1976.
The players had rehearsed the panto for three months and it was performed at Ash Street Parish School.

Two patrol leaders of Loyola Scout Group,
Oswaldtwistle, received Chief Scout awards from the District Commissioner Mr J Butler.
The leaders, Gerard Buckel, 16, and 14-yearold Kenneth Nolan, were both pupils of Holy Family RC School.
They were commended for the award by district leader Phil Woods after being involved in a series of activities with the group. Below that, members of the Rishton folk group ‘Lancashire Fayre’ who took part in the annual service of the Regnal League, Great
Harwood Circle. They include Stuart Lees, Paddy Rouse, Anne
Bartholomew and Ewan Rowland. A new idea from the Parent Teacher Association of Rishton St Charles’ School to raise funds proved popular among the ladies in the 1970s.
‘Keep Fit to Music’ sessions were held in the school hall and attended by 26 people.

Finally this week, the boys of St Augustine’s Cub Scout pack in Huncoat tried councillors’ seats out for size when they paid a visit to the Hyndburn Council Chamber.
The Cubs and their leaders were there at the invitation of Mayor Coun Donald McNeil.
