Hundreds sign up for Covid test centre

-

A COVID-19 testing centre has arrived in the borough this week.

Open to anyone who has symptoms of Covid-19, the test centre is at Hyndburn Leisure Centre for four days and has so far had hundreds of people booking in for testing.

Hyndburn MP Sara Britcliffe said: “Residents have been concerned with the rise in cases in neighbouring areas such as Blackburn over recent weeks and as we have now seen a small rise in

Hyndburn, I have been pushing for a testing centre to come to us. This is very welcome in our borough, so we can recognise where any outbreaks are happening and effectively support NHS Test and Trace.

“The arrival of this test centre will make it easier for people to get a test if they need one.”

Hyndburn council leader Coun Miles Parkinson said it is key that every single person with one or more symptoms of Coronavirus gets a test if NHS Test and Trace is to be effective.

He said: “By doing this we can protect our community and slow the spread. It is key that if you get a positive result you self-isolate and anyone you have been in close contact with also isolates as per NHS Test and Trace instructions.

“The best way to slow the transmission of Covid-19 in our community is to follow government guidelines at all times. This includes social distancing from anyone not in your household, washing your hands frequently and thoroughly and wearing a face covering when in enclosed public spaces such as shops or supermarkets, unless exempt.”

The test centre is on an appointment-only basis. Tests can be booked via the nhs.uk website. People can book in for a test if they have ONE or more symptoms of coronavirus including temperature, continuous cough, loss of sense of taste or smell.
