Stanley gearing up for big return on glorious 12th

-

ACCRINGTON Stanley are set to return to Sky Bet League One on September 12.

And preparations are already under way behind the scenes as the clubs gears up for a welcome return to action.

The EFL confirmed the start date for the 2020/21 season – a month later than normal because of the coronavirus pandemic – in a statement at the weekend.

Stanley have not played a competitive game since the lockdown came into effect in March.

It is not yet clear whether any supporters will be allowed in the stadium, or whether matches will take place behind closed doors, though it appears likely fans will be back at the Wham Stadium by early October, even if that means reduced capacity attendances.

A statement on the Reds’ official website said: “The news we are now awaiting from the EFL is whether supporters will be allowed back into the stadiums at the beginning of the new season or at a later date.

“We are also waiting to find out when we will get the above information and also what numbers will initially be allowed into stadiums.

“We, at Accrington Stanley, are preparing for the resumption of season ticket sales.

“Early Bird options will be available as will Loyalty Cards and, as soon as we know how many games supporters will be allowed into, we will put out the relevant season ticket prices.

“For those who have already paid for a new season ticket, we will offer the options of credit or reimbursement for the games supporters are not allowed to attend at the start of the new season.

“Please keep your current season ticket cards as the club will simply reload next season’s games onto your current season ticket card once you have completed the application form and paid for your season ticket.

“Whilst the administration staff still currently remain on furlough, the retail shop is now open every Monday from 10am until 1pm for new kit and shirt purchases as well as the regular retail products on sale.

“As soon as we have further news on the admission of supporters and when we can re-start season ticket sales, we will let everyone know at the earliest opportunity.”

League Two and Championship clubs will begin on the same date, along with the Premier League, with the season finishing on May 8 and 9.

Play-off finals will take place across the bank holiday weekend at the end of May, as normal.
