JACK WHITTAM
MR Jack Whittam, of Great Harwood and more recently Hope House, Clayton-le-Moors, died peacefully there on Thursday, June 24, at the age of 99.
He was the husband of the late Agnes, who passed away nine years ago, and brother to the late Mary and Joan.
He was a much loved uncle to many nieces and nephews, and especially looked on Poppy, Libby and Jacob with great fondness as if they were his own grandchildren.
Jack also left numerous friends and acquaintances who he got to know over the years; he was well known in Great Harwood and appreciated the support of his neighbours, who all looked out for him.
Jack served in the
Royal Navy in his younger days, where he travelled the world serving his country.
Jack joined Priestley Footwear in 1956, working his way up to Company Director until his retirement after 30 years, being a well respected employee.
Jack enjoyed holidaying around the world, South Africa, and Europe, where he still kept in contact with the friends he and Agnes had made. But his favourite holiday destination was Durness in the
Highlands, which became like a second home to them; this is where they had many many friends, who Jack was still in touch with up until his passing.
Jack had a passion for motor cars and driving. gaining his advanced drivers licence, which he held with great pride.
In his later years he was just happy to be in his own home where he enjoyed the company and help of his family and friends, which he was always appreciative of. He maintained his sense of humour until the end.
He continued to enjoy his music and was a regular requester on BBC Radio Lancashire’s Sunday evening show.
The service and committal will take place on Tuesday, July 13, at 2.20pm at Accrington Crematorium Chapel. Family flowers only please, but donations in memory of Jack to North West Air Ambulance.
Funeral director: Great Harwood Funeral Service, Great Harwood.
