Archie’s following Uncle’s footsteps

- LUKE PEARSON

THERE’S a new

Procter in town and Archie Procter is hoping to follow in the footsteps of ‘Uncle Andrew’ at Accrington Stanley.

Midfielder Andrew Procter needs no introduction to

Stanley fans, just falling narrowly short of the appearance record to Paul Mullin as he clocked up more than 400 games for the Reds.

‘Proc’ was at

Stanley from 2002-12, playing his part and captaining the side in the rise from nonleague into professional football, and then 2014-16 before becoming retiring from playing and becoming a physiotherapist.

When Andrew was playing, Archie was a youngster in London and was a Stanley mascot at many of the away games in the capital.

Now the 19-year-old defender has left AFC Wimbledon and will be donning the senior shirt of the Reds.

“It feels nice to get it done, I am happy to get started now,” said Archie who has signed a two-year deal.

“It was a no brainer when I knew Accrington were interested. I was saying it to my family, this is the club which made me fall in love with football at a young age, because of Andrew and John (Coleman) and Jimmy (Bell).

“Andrew is delighted for me, he has always been there for me, and hopefully I can do similar to what he did for the club.

“It was tough to leave Wimbledon, I have been there since I was 11, eight years of their work and support has gone into it, but I felt it was the right time, I am ready for a new challenge. Hopefully, I can hit the ground running and do well.

“I am a centre half not a centre midfielder like Andrew was.

“I am only 19 but I like to be loud and a leader and someone who will give everything.”
