Supporters welcomed back home for clash with Adams’ new Bantams

- LUKE PEARSON

SUBJECT to the Lancashire Director of Public Health and the EFL Safety Advisory Group lifting all Covid-19 restrictions on Monday 19th July, Accrington Stanley will welcome fans back to the Wham Stadium on Saturday 31st July as the Reds host Bradford City in a pre-season friendly, 3pm kick-off.

The game would be Stanley’s official ‘Return of Fans’ EFL test event and would be restricted to 750 home supporters across the Farleys Solicitors Stand (400) and the Studio Family Stand (350).

It will be the first time since March 2020 that Stanley fans will be able to attend a game at the Wham Stadium.

City finished 15th in Sky Bet League Two last season, with Derek Adams then confirmed as The Bantams’ new manager at the start of June.

Prior to his arrival at the Utilita Energy Stadium, the Scotsman had just guided Morecambe to promotion to the third tier for the first time in the club’s history.

The last meeting between the two sides at the Wham Stadium saw the Reds clinch a 3-1 victory, with Billy Kee, Offrande Zanzala and Sean McConville all on the scoresheet for John Coleman’s side.

Tickets will be available to purchase from Tuesday 20th July at 10.00am on a first come first served basis until the 750 tickets are sold.

You can purchase your ticket in person from the club shop or by calling 01254 356950 (Option One) and ordering, with payment details, over the phone.

The club can only take debit/credit or cheque payments - they are unable to take cash payments.

Managing Director David Burgess said: “We are desperate to get the

Stanley supporters back into the Wham Stadium. “It has been a frustrating 17 months without them being able to watch a live game and they have been massively missed by everyone at the club.

“We are hopeful that after a false start in September 2020 when our initial test event against Oxford United should have allowed 750 home supporters into the Wham, the game against Bradford City on Saturday 31st July will get the green light from the authorities and 750 fans will get to see the Reds for the first time since March 2020.

“The test event itself will hopefully get approved by the relative safety groups and we can then go full steam ahead and get all the Covid-19 restrictions lifted, including supporter numbers restrictions, and get the Wham full and rocking again on Saturday 14th August against Cambridge United.”

Manager John Coleman said: “It will be one of Derek Adams’ first games in charge, so it should be a good game.

“It will be great to have the fans back inside the Wham Stadium and it’s another stage in our preparation for the 2021/22 season.”

Ticket prices for the friendly against Bradford are: Adults - £10, All Concessions - £5.
